Artist's Comments

A small sketch from Tuesday. All we did in class was look at bacterium and watch this funny video:[link]
The voice in the video is actually from a fast food training video, which I think is really awesome.

The topic of cloning also came up, hence the title.
More to come in the future...

What the.... :D What a strange thing to watch in class! Though I suppose it isn't any more odd than our weekly viewing of Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Delicious arts as ever!

I feel stupid, but I'm not so sure how much cloning has to do with tetoleres... so much as cancer, infinite cell division, and even le gasp immortality.

A bit of cell modification through stem cells, I suppose too. Maybe that's cloning.

In the first cloning of a vertebrate animal, known as Dolly, an adult animal cell was used. Dolly had passed away at a surprisingly early age and later on it was found that the original cell from which she was created the telomeres were significantly shorter than those that would be found in a zygote. These specialized strands of DNA shorten over time after each replication due to the enzyme telomerase. All in all, telomeres were an important indicator that cloning using an adult cell would result in a greatly shortened lifespan.
Very cool stuff, there's probably much more to it than just telomeres... :)
